FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What happens on the first session?

I will always carry out a free telephone consultation prior to your first session. This is to introduce myself and gain a brief understanding of why you would like therapy. This also gives you an opportunity to ask me any questions about the process. At this point, if you wish to continue, we can arrange a date and time for our first session.
When you arrive to your first session, I will use this time to ask you a few questions to get to know you better and gain more of an understanding of your background. Sessions are based on what you bring to them and what you choose to share. The more open you share, the more we can explore your thoughts and feelings. Don't worry if you are not sure where to start, I will help facilitate this.

How many sessions do I need?

It can take a while to settle into the therapy process and build a relationship with your therapist, so I would recommend a minimum of 6 sessions to begin with. After this, it really depends on what your needs are but this is something we can review. I generally encourage you to make a decision around what you need but will always share my recommendations. It is important to consider that change can take time.

How regular do sessions need to be?

Sessions ideally need to be weekly to begin with. After we review the process, we can then discuss the possibility of reducing frequency to a fortnightly basis.

How long is a session?

Each session is 50 minutes long. On occasions you may want to book a double session. You can discuss your needs when we meet.

What if I need to cancel a session?

If you need to cancel or re-schedule a session, I will need 48 hours notice (during office hours) and there will be no charge. If it is less than 48 hours notice, you will be charged the full price of the session.

Are sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is respected throughout the sessions. However, it is important to note, in line with the ethical codes of conduct, confidentiality may be breached if you present as a risk to yourself, or somebody around you. Every attempt will be made to speak to you about any concerns , prior to taking any action.

I do not live near you or in the United Kingdom, is it still possible for us to work together?

Of course. I frequently carry out Skype sessions both in the UK and internationally. If distance is an issue or it is hard to find the time to travel to a session, Skype can be a handy way of getting the support you may need.

When are you available to book sessions?

This can vary from week to week but I do offer early mornings and late evenings as well as normal 9 - 5 hours. I usually get booked up a week in advance.

Do you have professional indemnity insurance?

Yes, my practice is covered by indemnity insurance.

My partner / child / family member would like therapy. Can I book sessions for them?

Ideally it would be better for them to call me directly to discuss their needs and take ownership of their own therapy. However, it is ok to assist with practicalities especially if that person is struggling to make the first move. I would need that person's consent to continue with the process and ideally speak to them before confirming any sessions.
